In addition to an active professional life, Candace keeps busy with her two boys, Cade and Connor, ages 12 and 8. "They're the loves of my life," she says. She met her husband, Cody, also a real estate broker, while working in real estate development and marketing. He has his own commercial management/maintenance company now. Cody mentored her during a development project, and many years later, their friendship led to marriage. "Even today, I still consult with him" she says. "He likes to hear my adventures every day."
Another aspect of her personal life that flows into her profession is her love of languages and culture. She speaks French and Spanish, in addition to English. Candace learned French in college and during her travels in Europe. She learned Spanish when a project required it. "We had a lot of affluent Latin Americans coming to the United States to purchase properties during the days of the peso devaluation. The large development company I worked for sent me to an accelerated Spanish program to learn to better communicate with our clientele," she recalls. "It's proven to be an asset because I use it to this day."
In more than two decades of experience, she has also learned to be sensitive to cultural differences when selling real estate. "When dealing with Asian clients, there are certain things they're looking for in a property," she says. "It's all about Feng Shui, if you will, or the proper orientation of the home's aspects. In the Latin culture, there are formalitles to observe. You need to establish a relationship before any kind of busienss transaction." These are the kinds of things that only someone with extensive experience in the real estate business knows. Candace realizes that she landed in just the right profession for her talents. "I love that there are no two transactions that are alike. That's what makes it interesting."
